Here is a raw version of an artist statement as comprehended after my summer works and before the first critique.
Thoughts on art: I find the easiest place to begin comprehending art is within myself. I spend a lot of time in my head, wandering the chamber and pathways worn there. The mind is a stunning place, enabling every human being to not only stay alive but learn and love and question. Humans are all equipped with brains but the way we utilize and train them is so vastly different and fascinating that one need look no farther than within themselves for a wealth of ideas. Self-examination brings out many emotions in a person, which may again be examined as responses. The brain is at once a castle and a maze that we may rule but may not always know our way around, only to be lead through the white hallways of contemplation and reflection in order to find the truth.
The process of creation at once elates and terrifies me, bringing together my worldly hands to engage with my flesh bound mind to create something that is neither as resilient, or long lasting as our bones. Art serves as a vessel for ideas, a message, a shout into the darkness from one human to another, for man is not an island and we must communicate to thrive. In my physical art I search to find a representation for the depth of not only emotion but thought that chases round and round inside our beings, to visualize and compartmentalize the dreams and sorrows of this world.
